They are sometimes expected to layout and evaluate staff training and development programs, customer service initiatives, and performance measurement criteria. Somewhat less frequently, office managers are also expected to keep informed of provisions of labor-management agreements and their effects on departmental operations.

They also have to be able to monitor inventory levels and requisition or purchase supplies as needed and direct or perform efforts associated with shipping and transportation. And finally, they sometimes have to recruit and decide on employees.
