Chief executive officers talk with board members, organization officials, and staff members to consider issues and resolve problems. Equally important, chief executive officers have to direct human resources efforts, including the approval of human resource plans and efforts, the selection of directors and other high-level staff, and establishment and organization of major departments. They are often called upon to inspect reports submitted by staff members to recommend approval or to suggest changes. They are expected to ready budgets for approval, including those for funding and implementation of programs. Finally, chief executive officers negotiate or approve contracts and agreements with suppliers, distributors, federal and state agencies, and other organizational entities.
