In general, business management analysts conduct organizational studies and evaluations, design systems and procedures, conduct work simplifications and measurement studies, and prepare operations and procedures manuals to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively. They also includes program analysts and management consultants.

Business management analysts inspect forms and reports and talk with management about format and purpose. They also gather and organize data on problems or procedures. Equally important, business management analysts have to analyze data gathered and design solutions or alternative methods of proceeding. They are often called upon to talk with personnel to insure successful functioning of newly implemented systems or procedures. They are expected to layout and approve changes of forms and reports. Finally, business management analysts interview personnel and conduct on-site observation to ascertain unit functions and methods, equipment, and personnel used.

Every day, business management analysts are expected to be able to articulate ideas and problems. They need to listen to and understand others in meetings.

Business management analysts sometimes are asked to ready manuals and train staff in use of new forms, reports, procedures or equipment, in line with organizational policy. and recommend purchase of storage equipment and design area layout to place equipment in space available. And finally, they sometimes have to design and implement records management programs for filing and retrieval of records, and ensure adherence to programs.
