Equally important, web developers have to communicate with network personnel or web site hosting agencies to address hardware or software issues affecting web sites. They are often called upon to design or implement processes for ongoing web site revision. They are expected to maintain understanding of current web technologies or programming practices through continuing education or participation in professional conferences or groups. Finally, web developers layout and implement web site security measures such as firewalls or message encryption.

Every day, web developers are expected to be able to think through problems and come up with general rules. They need to articulate ideas and problems. It is also important that they listen to and understand others in meetings.

It is important for web developers to design system interaction or sequence diagrams. They are often called upon to develop searchable indices for web page content. They also evaluate or recommend server hardware or software. They are sometimes expected to document technical factors such as server load and browser and device types. Somewhat less frequently, web developers are also expected to decide on programming languages or applications.

They also have to be able to research or decide on alternatives for web architecture or technologies and recommend and implement performance improvements. And finally, they sometimes have to analyze user needs to establish technical requirements.

Like many other jobs, web developers must be thorough and dependable and be able to absorb the factors involved and a problem and provide a well thought out solution.
