JOB DESCRIPTION: Electrical and Electronics Repair and Maintenance Person

Electrical and electronics repair and maintenance persons study blueprints and other specifications to establish installation procedures. They also test faulty apparatus to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment and software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems. Equally important, electrical and electronics repair and maintenance persons have to perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking and repairing equipment, to uncover and avoid problems. They are often called upon to direct efforts with other staff involved in installing and maintaining equipment or parts. They are expected to examine parts of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation and for defects such as loose connections and frayed wires. Finally, electrical and electronics repair and maintenance persons assemble and test industrial apparatus to insure that it functions properly.

Every day, electrical and electronics repair and maintenance persons are expected to be able to organize information in a variety of ways. They need to visualize how things come together and can be organized. It is also important that they control and manipulate objects at a fine level of detail.
