In general, loading machine operators operate underground loading machines to load coal, ore, or rock into shuttles or mine cars or onto conveyors. They also loading equipment may include power shovels, hoisting engines equipped with cable-drawn scraper or scoop, or machines equipped with gathering arms and conveyor.

Every day, loading machine operators are expected to be able to maintain precise control of objects and devices through a range of movements. It is also important that they respond quickly in general.
