They also assign tasks such as feeding and treatment of animals, and cleaning and maintenance of animal quarters. Equally important, animal husbandry and animal care workers have to observe animals for signs of illness or unusual behavior; notifying veterinarians or managers as warranted. They are often called upon to monitor animal care or breeding; or packing and transfer efforts to insure work is done correctly. They are expected to transport or manage transport of animals and other supplies to and from worksites. Finally, animal husbandry and animal care workers treat animal illnesses or injuries, following experience or instructions of veterinarians.

Every day, animal husbandry and animal care workers are expected to be able to evaluate problems as they arise. It is also important that they articulate ideas and problems.

It is important for animal husbandry and animal care workers to ready reports concerning facility efforts, employees' time records, and animal treatment.
