They are often called upon to evaluate environmental characteristics such as venue size and lighting plans in order to establish makeup requirements. They are expected to examine sketches and plaster models so as to obtain desired character image depictions. Finally, makeup artists develop character drawings or models, based upon independent research, so as to augment period production files.
Every day, makeup artists are expected to be able to distinguish between colors. They need to articulate ideas and problems. It is also important that they see details at a very fine level of focus.
It is important for makeup artists to cleanse and tone the skin in order to ready it for makeup application.
