License examiners evaluate applications and documents so as to gather data related to eligibility or liability issues. They also advise licensees and other individuals or groups concerning licensing or passport regulations. Finally, license examiners issue licenses to individuals meeting standards.

Every day, license examiners are expected to be able to articulate ideas and problems. They need to listen to and understand others in meetings. It is also important that they read and understand documents and reports.

It is important for license examiners to score tests and observe equipment operation and control so as to rate ability of applicants. They are often called upon to warn violators of infractions or penalties. They also administer oral or flight tests to license applicants. They are sometimes expected to ready reports of efforts and decisions. Somewhat less frequently, license examiners are also expected to advise licensees and other individuals or groups concerning licensing or passport regulations.

They also have to be able to visit establishments to confirm that valid licenses and permits are displayed, and that licensing standards are being upheld and report law or regulation violations to appropriate boards and agencies. And finally, they sometimes have to ready reports of efforts and decisions.
