In general, bricklayer helpers help brickmasons, blockmasons, or tile and marble setters by performing duties of lesser skill. They also duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.

Bricklayer helpers mix mortar and grout, manually or using machines, in line with standard formulas. They also transport materials and machines to installation sites, manually or using conveyance equipment. Equally important, bricklayer helpers have to trim materials to specified sizes for installation, using power saws or tile cutters. They are often called upon to arrange and store materials, machines and equipment. They are expected to furnish assistance in the preparation and/or rebuilding of tile or stone surfaces. Finally, bricklayer helpers modify material moving or cleaning procedures in line with installation or material requirements.

Every day, bricklayer helpers are expected to be able to lift, push and move large and heavy objects. They need to twist and stretch their arms and legs to get work done. It is also important that they use lower back and abdominal strength.
